Actos

is a medication of the thiazolidinedione category that's pretty recent. It is used on it's own or possibly in combination with additional medicine including the hormone insulin for the treatment of type two diabetes. The medicine reduces blood sugar levels and increases the body's level of sensitivity to insulin. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Actos in the late 90s.

Type-2 diabetes currently effects nearly 20 million Americans. It is a condition that involves high blood glucose amounts due to the body's incapability to correctly use insulin. However, if the issue is left untreated, it can lead to blindness, kidney problems, and heart problems, and bladder cancer.

Shortly after the authorization of Actos, another thiazolidinedione called Rezulin, was taken down from the shelves because several studies came out regarding people that developed fatal liver disease after taking the drug.

More instances came forward after individuals took Actos or Avandia and developed congestive heart disease which pressed the American Diabetes Association(ADA) and the American Heart Association to send a stern warning for diabetic patients taking Actos because they were at an increased risk of getting heart disease and bladder cancer.

The FDA recently released a new warning based on its look at information from a continuous clinical study which showed Actos elevated the chance of individuals developing bladder cancer following taking the drug for more than a year. Consequently, the FDA required the producers of Actos to release and also now include a black box warning (highest and strongest label change) about the serious risks associated with use of the drug.

Presently, the FDA is still looking at trials to determine whether additional actions, such as a recall, is necessary. There are lots of negative effects associated with Actos. You should seek medical attention if you experience:

• shortness of breath or trouble breathing • chest ache • extreme exhaustion • irregular heart beat • dilated neck veins • swelling of face, fingers, feet, or lower legs • reduced urine output • weight gain

Currently, the FDA is informing physicians not to use Actos on patients with bladder cancer. Affected individuals should talk to his or her medical professional regarding any issues they could have.

• Blood in the Urine • Discomfort During Urination • Frequent Urination • Sense of Needing to Use the bathroom Without Results
