Musician Connections: A Tale of Two Vacuums
When I realized that the well dressed, courteous man standing outside our door was selling dyson reviews, I inwardly sighed. But I decided, "What the heck, why not?" He would never talk me in to getting some thing as unnecessary or as high priced together of those door to door vacuum cleaners. But I respect people trying to make a living and cool calling has to be among the toughest in terms of difficulties, so I opened the door to him.OK. Short story. I was impressed. The salesperson was an expert magician at his marketing capabilities, his display and display. Compared to my aged product vacuum, his vacuum cleaner did everything but dance and sing. Even today I am not sure what happened....maybe it had been the simplicity when the dog hair vanished. Maybe it the expected mass delivery of these an incredible number of " hidden to the naked eye" dust mites...whatever it was that fished the decision in his favor, two hours later, I possessed a $1200.00 vacuum cleaner. As he drove away he believed to me, "You must think about doing some art workshops when I know someone who arranges them."A decade passed. I continued my art career, advertising myself and my art at several venues-at art shows around the land, the specialty shows, journals, in community, on the Internet...and included a few courses and private instructions to the mix.The vacuum cleaner sat enshrined in the closet and was taken out when required. A subtle but valuable lesson had been learned by me. No matter how much you might have settled for the priciest vacuum cleaner in the world, so as for it to work, somebody really has to force it!Several years ago, I chose to followup on the salesman's suggestion. I approached the person he had described, and I was also directed by that person to some other area of marketing. Sure enough, within a several years, that long ago idea exposed a new, successful flow of income for an artist businessman with new DVD's, audio CD's, ebooks and a new line of art workshops. My "Tale of Two Vacuums" is a common exemplory case of every artist's art marketing trip. Chance meetings, when applied, could open up the opportunity a month, per year, or perhaps a decade later and the artist only has to be ready and willing to follow it. As you of my most high-priced impulse buys the key for any musician in business, will be conscious of when it's time to pursue a brand new or additional method of income and then do it.For a time, I referred to my vacuum cleaner. But in a short time, I was talking about it as one of my superior investments! And yes, I still have it.by M Theresa Brown
